What is the difference between ServSafe® Manager and ServSafe® Food Handler?
The ServSafe Manager Certification verifies that a manager or person-in-charge has enough food safety knowledge to protect the public from foodborne illness. This certification is generally required by the health department to operate a foodservice business, food truck, or apply for a cottage license. The ServSafe Food Handler Certificate verifies basic food safety knowledge for food handler employee-level positions.
If you are a restaurant owner, manager, or employee and are responsible for food safety, then you need the ServSafe® Food Manager Course. If you are not a manager but still an individual who will be handling the food in your establishment, then you need the ServSafe® Food Handler Course.
Is the ServSafe® Certified Food Protection Manager program ANSI accredited?
Yes, the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Exam is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) National Accreditation Board (ANAB) under the Conference for Food Protection (CFP) standard. The ServSafe program is a food and beverage safety training and certificate program administered by the US National Restaurant Association. It is accepted in all 50 states although restrictions apply in some jurisdictions.

Passing score
The passing score for the ServSafe Food Handler Examination is 75% or higher. The passing score for the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Examination is 70%.

Certification Expiration
The National Restaurant Association recognizes the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification for 5 years, and the ServSafe Alcohol and ServSafe Food Handler Certificates for 3 years. However, state or employer requirements may vary.

Retesting
If you don't pass the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Examination, you can retest twice within 30 days. If you don't pass the second time, you must wait 60 days before retesting again. You must purchase a new exam each time you retest. If you took the in-person training with us and completed the prep work before the training, you are entitled to 1 free exam retake but must purchase the exam access code from us for $39.

The ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Examination is available in English, Spanish, and Chinese.

Exam accommodations
If an examinee requests an accommodation that hasn't been preapproved by the Association, they can either postpone the exam or take it without the requested accommodation.

Food Handler assessment
The ServSafe Food Handler online assessment doesn't require a proctor, so you can take it by yourself. For the classroom or print version, an instructor must administer the assessment.

Certificate access
Certificate is issued the same day when you take the exam with our company. We will provide you with a copy in most cases but you can print and download your certificate unlimited times until it expires.
